Conversion of the disused pump house at Lopwell Dam into a visitors’ centre, including exhibition space and tea room.

The project was completed on time and within budget.

The internal fit-out included:

• Pump equipment area: One of the conditions of the build was to provide a bat roost and this was constructed in the roof void. A bat loft was designed specifically to accommodate various species of bats and even has its own heater.
• Kitchenette: The existing floor was completely rotten so was removed and a new floor constructed. The area was separated into various spaces and a new storage area and the kiosk and kitchenette areas were formed. New serving hatch installed.
• WC: new facilities were plumbed in.
• Lifting beams, chains and pulleys: The design specified that the existing equipment should be retained so we replaced the ceiling around this feature, made the walls good and installed lights.
• Viewing screens: We installed hardwood, double glazed units to see the original workings of the pump house. The screens also provided additional warmth, security and a better view of the river.

The external fit-out included:

• New windows and doors
• New disabled access ramp and hand-railings
• Metal fence and gate for security
• Installation of a new foul water drainage system
• General clean up of the outside of the building
