Derriford Transport Scheme

Delivery of three significant transport improvement schemes to the road infrastructure in north Plymouth.

Phase 3 – Derriford Transport Scheme

Major junction improvements works took place at Derriford Roundabout and on one of Plymouth’s main artery roads.  The scheme will aid traffic flow, ease congestion and improve access into Derriford Hospital and Plymouth’s northern corridor.

Works included excavations, drainage, attenuation tanks, footpaths, cycle tracks, traffic lights and LED street lighting.  Ryearch ensured service co-ordination with all utility providers (cable, gas, water, phone and fibre-optics) to minimise disruption.

Ryearch’s in-house Civil Engineering Team offered a flexible service by extending the night work hours, to enable the scheme to finish on time.

Opportunities for value engineering were identified whilst working on the scheme, e.g. re-using an enormous concrete structure found in the ground, by breaking it up and recycling as backfill.  All adaptions were approved following liaison with the client.

The contract progressed well and to the clients’ satisfaction, all targets being met.
