Delivery of three significant transport improvement schemes to the road infrastructure in north Plymouth.
Phase 2 – Derriford Hospital Interchange
This project has introduced two-way traffic flow with remodelling of roads, drop-off zones and pedestrian access. Works have been challenging as they took place not only on a live site, but right outside the very busy hospital entrance with existing pedestrian access being maintained. This required Ryearch to liaise closely with all relevant parties including the hospital, City Bus, South West Ambulances, taxi firms and NCP carpark to minimise disruption.
Value engineering was incorporated into the scheme by using concrete crib walling as the reinforced retaining wall structure.
Works also included creating a disabled access ramp, and installing cycle stores, bus shelters, street furniture, bollards, signage and street lighting.
The contract was successful, all targets being met.
